Maureen Calderara
 Class Cost/Days/Times
Maureen has loved the water as long as she can remember. Always on the outside looking in, she landed a job at Indiana University working under legendary coaches, former USA Men's Olympic Team Coach and Indiana University Men's Swimming Coach, James (Doc) Counsilman; IU Diving Coach Hobie Billingsley, and IU Women's Swimming Coach, Pat Barry. At IU's Outdoor Pool, Olympians from all over the world would come to train. This experience helped to ignite her involvement in the sport. She has been a member of USA Master's Swimming in Florida, Texas and Hawaii. Most recently she was the Assistant High School Swim Coach at Kamehameha Schools- Hawaii under former Water Polo Olympian, Coach Dan Lyons. She also worked as a volunteer club coach for Warrior Aquatics on the Big Island of Hawaii.

Maureen and her husband, Mario, have recently moved to The Woodlands from the Big Island of Hawaii where Mario was Site Manager for Gemini Observatory atop Mauna Kea. They have 5 children, ages 11-24. Maureen taught all 5 of her children to swim. Some of their achievements include 2 Time Texas TAGS Champion, Multiple TAGS Finalists, Sectional Qualifiers, Hawaii State Swim Champion, Hawaii State High School Championship Meet Qualifier and Finalist in multiple events and Women's Water Polo State Championship team member.

When not at the pool (and when at the pool), Maureen thinks what life might have been had she pursued her law career. Maureen is also an attorney and a member of the Georgia Bar Association.

I started swimming at 7 for The Woodlands Marlins and joined TWST when I was 12. My greatest swimming accomplishment so far was making the 200 fly sectionals time this summer. I'm going to be a sophomore at the Academy of Science and Technology at College Park and I also swim for the College Park Varsity Team. In addition to swimming I am also involved in National Charity League and my church's youth program.

Swimming has been a part of my life since before I can even remember. My parents put me in the water at only 6 months old; ever since it's been a large part of my life and has made me the person I am today. My father, who was an internationally ranked Polish swimmer, taught me and my two younger sisters how to swim. By age 4, I was able to swim most of the strokes all by myself. At age 7, I started swimming for the Walnut Creek YMCA along with my younger sister Ania, who was 4 years old at the time. We both became decent swimmers and we were both able to qualify for the Iowa Games Championship Meet. At age 12, my family and I moved to Texas and I joined TWST. I made my first and only TAGS swim meet at age 14 in both the 100 and 200 Backstroke. As Senior swimmer I made my two Sectional cuts at age 16 in both the 100 and 200 Backstroke. Now at age 17, I am one of the 5 Team Captains of TWST and I am a part of the National/Gold Senior Group. My goal for the season is to make my first Junior National cut in the 200 or 100 Backstroke.

I have been teaching PreTWST lessons since April 2011. The reason I love this job is because of the sense of accomplishment it brings. To teach a child how to overcome their challenges in the water and to see them succeed, brings indescribable feelings of pride and joy. It is always exciting to see a child swim their very first lap independently. I strive to help every one of my students to the best of my ability. Also, one of the main reasons I wanted to become a Team Captain of TWST is because I wanted to focus on bringing our team together. In other words, I want to do this by having the older kids get to know the younger ones. The older swimmers have gone to a few of the age group meets already to cheer and support our each of our teammates, no matter how small. Slowly but surely TWST is becoming less of a team and more of a family, with each of us supporting one another. I am proud to be a part of this team with all of the wonderful Coaches, Swimmers, and Instructors; It's going to be a great year for TWST and PreTWST lessons.

During and after high school, Julia worked as a lifeguard and the head coach for a country club's recreational swim team. She wrote workouts, worked on stroke technique, and coached over 20 kids from the ages 4-12. She also taught private swimming lessons to children ages 2-4.

In college, Julia worked as personal trainer. In 2009, she was awarded ?Personal Trainer? of the year by UT Dallas. In 2008, she was awarded ?Toughest Group Instructor.? She has taught various Group X classes that included Spin and Scuplt, Body Sculpting, and Boot Camp.

Jessica started swimming at the age of 8 with the Champions summer league team. She then moved to Chicago and swam 5 years with the Dundee Dolphins. At age 13 she moved to The Woodlands and swam with TWST through High school. She was a three time HS All American and state qualifier at The Woodlands HS & member of the State Championship team in 2007. She was an NCSA Junior Nationals participant 3 consecutive years.

Jessica went on to swim in the ACC at NC State University and was a 4 year varsity letter winner at NCSU, where she improved her times every year. Jessica took on a leadership role and was noticed as the top recruiter from the women's swim team while at NCSU. She then graduated with a degree in Communication in August 2012.

Jessica taught lessons for TWST while in high school at the WAC. She also was a lifeguard and nursery attendant at the WAC. Jessica was the head coach for a summer league swim team in Raleigh for 3 consecutive summers. The team (100+ kids) won their division two of the three years. The bonds with the families and children she made on that team will be life long, and she hopes to find that on TWST as well.

Jessica will be working primarily with the junior red group while at TWST and helping out other groups as needed. She also teaches lessons with TWST.

A Butterfly, Breast Stroke and IM specialist; Jessica credits her TWST coaches for providing her with the foundation for her success and hopes to impart the same with this new generation of TWST swimmers.
